    Pro Tip

Don’t just learn tech, show your work. Recruiters and employers in Nigeria are increasingly paying attention to what you’ve built, not just what you say you can do. Whether it’s a GitHub repository, a live portfolio, or contributions to open-source projects, proof of work can tip the scale in your favour especially in a sea of CVs with similar certifications. Even for non-coding roles like UI/UX design or IT support, having a portfolio, case study, or documented experience (like a personal blog or troubleshooting journal) gives you an edge that certificates alone cannot.

The IT landscape in Nigeria is rapidly diversifying. It means you don’t have to be a genius programmer to build a successful tech career. With roles ranging from data analysis to IT compliance, the industry offers multiple entry points for people with different interests and skills. But as the competition grows, so does the need for intentional career planning. Stay curious, keep learning, and most importantly, be visible. Your next opportunity might not just depend on what you know, but on how well you’ve made your skills known.
