Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), originally established in 1962 as the University of Ife, stands tall as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious federal institutions. Nestled in the historic city of Ile-Ife in Osun State, OAU boasts a sprawling campus that is both intellectually vibrant and architecturally impressive. The university is home to 13 well-established faculties, covering a wide spectrum of disciplines from the arts and humanities to engineering, health sciences, agriculture, and the pure and applied sciences. Alongside these faculties are several renowned research centres that continue to push the boundaries of innovation and academic inquiry in Africa.
In line with its strategic vision, Obafemi Awolowo University opened its 2025 recruitment exercise calling for both academic and non-academic professionals to join its mission-driven workforce.
The recruitment drive cuts across various cadres. On the academic front, the university is looking to fill positions ranging from Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer I, Lecturer II, Senior Lecturer, and Professor, across multiple departments. For non-academic and technical roles, there are openings for administrative officers, technologists, systems programmers, nursing officers, guidance counsellors, horticulturists, and more.
This massive hiring initiative is not just routine; it’s part of a deliberate plan to:
Advance academic quality through refreshed teaching methods, strengthened faculty teams, and deeper research output.
Meet operational needs by improving support services in critical areas like ICT, laboratory management, mental health, and campus maintenance.
Drive strategic goals, including modernising the university’s infrastructure, expanding its digital reach, and fostering a more innovative, globally relevant academic environment.
Obafemi Awolowo University is clearly not just hiring to fill vacancies; it’s building the next generation of thinkers, problem solvers, and changemakers who will help define its future. There are currently 85 non-academic positions and over 100 academic positions open at the university.
